Advance Peace grew out of Richmond, California’s Office of Neighborhood Safety, where our founder DeVone Boggan built the Peacemaker Fellowship® on a simple, stubborn belief: the people at the center of retaliatory gun violence deserve real investment, not just supervision. Richmond’s homicide count fell from 47 in 2007 to 5 in 2025. That result didn’t come from a curriculum. It came from people—Neighborhood Change Agents, mentors, case managers, and a national team—who showed up every day and stayed.
We’re past proving this works in one city. Now we’re building the standards, training and credentialing that let it work everywhere—a real profession, with a real career ladder, not a rotating cast of burned-out staff. Whether you’re on the street with a Fellow at 2am or behind a laptop building the systems that support that work, your role is part of proving Community Violence Intervention belongs in the same category as any other serious public safety profession.

This is not law enforcement, and it never will be. We operate independently from police, and that independence is what makes the trust in this work possible.
This is not charity. Investing in someone doesn’t mean giving them a pass—it means holding them to a high standard and having their back no matter what.
